The Cricket Club History

The Cricket Club is one of the best Toronto Nighbourhoods that was first settled by Andrew McGlashan, a Scotsman, and his family in the early 1800s. He established a tranny on the southwest corner of Yonge Street and York Mills up to the 1850s.

However, in 1876, the McGlashan home was purchased by Andrew Bathgate, and in 1907, his heirs sold the home to William George Gooderham, Gooderham and Worts distillery owner.

Interestingly, a spring of fresh water was discovered by Gooderham, making him establish Mineral Springs Ltd. that bottled and sold this water around the world.

In fact, Gooderham played a crucial role in the residential aspect of this neighbourhood. Helping to establish the Toronto Cricket Skating and Curling Club was also another key act of his.
